Creation labs: a place of exploration
Devoted to research and creation, O Vertigo's dance labs can be qualified as exploration sessions in diversified forms, with choreographer Ginette Laurin, the company's dancers and collaborators. Leading to stimulating collaborations, these labs are made more dynamic by the infinite possibilities of some of the new technologies.

Lab n°10 : Christian Rizzo 10 days of research and creation with French multidisciplinary artist and choreographer Christian Rizzo.

Lab n°8 : Body & Light Discover the myriad possibilities of lighting the dancing body with light artist PIPON.
Lab n°9: Collective Body Voyage to the confluence of performance and video with Toronto artist Jeremy Mimnagh.

Lab No. 5 - The Resonant Body An exploration of the body's sonorities with the sound-design tandem Larsen Lupin.
Lab No. 6 - Body & Literature The company's dancers penetrate the world of Samuel Beckett with the help of dramatist-director Stéphanie Jasmin.
Lab No. 7 - Chanti Wadge 10 days of intensive creation with dancer, choreographer and interdisciplinary artist Chanti Wadge.

Lab No. 1 - Men/Women This lab aims to explore men's and women's differing perceptions in the context of creation.
Lab No. 2 10 days of intensive work with theatre director Wajdi Mouawad.
Labo No. 3 A collaboration between choreographer Ginette Laurin and various architects.

WORKSHOPS AND CLASSES 2008-2009
August 3 to 21, 2009 O Vertigo Intensive Workshop "Dance and Creative Processes"
Open to professionals, advanced-level students, and other performing artists with a solid physical training base.
Duration: 3 intensive weeks, 9:30 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. Location: Creation Centre, Montreal Cost: $900 CAD

Description This program offers a variety of classes and workshops based on the creative work of O Vertigo and conducted by company members and guest teachers:
• Technical Classes with Isabelle Poirier; • Creation Laboratories with Ginette Laurin and some of her dancers ; • Contact Improvisation and Instantaneous Improvisation with Andrew de Lotbinière Harwood; • Improvisation in relation with the creative process with Marc Boivin; • Workshop on the dance piece La Vie qui bat (1999); • Body consciousness and lifts.

ARTIST'S RESIDENCY POLICY
Since its founding in 1984, O Vertigo has dedicated itself to research and creation in dance, with equal emphasis on training and the development of the discipline in all its forms. Since the recent opening of the Creation Center at Place des Arts, the company has reaffirmed its mission, and, in the spirit of sharing resources, it is offering other artists in the dance milieu access to these new facilities, which provide optimum conditions for practicing the discipline.
Selection :
Candidates who wish to apply for a residency must send a motivation letter, along with a description of the project, a short biography, video excerpts of the project or previous works (VHS, DVD or Web link) and the best period for the residency to the address below:

Selection criteria :
The artistic quality of the project The pertinence of need
All applications will be examined by the selection committee.
Length of the residencies :
Each residency will last a maximum of two weeks. The length may vary slightly according to the Creation Center 's schedule of activities.
Available resources :
Artists whose projects have been selected will have access to O Vertigo's rehearsal studio (3,874 sq.ft.) and basic technical equipment (sound and lighting). Certain conditions concerning the use of space and equipment will be outlined in a written agreement between the artist and O Vertigo.
Registration dates :
O Vertigo will hold two residency competitions per year. For the 2009-2010 year, application deadlines are :
November 1, 2009 : due to some circumstances out of our control, we will not be able to open the Residency contest for November 1st, 2009.
May 1, 2010 : for projects to be carried out between July 1 and December 31, 2010. Candidates will receive the answer by May 31.
