Creation labs: a place of exploration

 

Devoted to research and creation, O Vertigo's dance labs can be qualified as exploration sessions in diversified forms, with choreographer Ginette Laurin, the company's dancers and collaborators. Leading to stimulating collaborations, these labs are made more dynamic by the infinite possibilities of some of the new technologies.

Description

This program offers a variety of classes and labs based on the creative

work of O Vertigo, conducted by company dancers and by Ginette Laurin and Martin Messier:

 

• Technical classes ;

• Creation laboratories based on the creative process of Onde de choc (Shock Wave),

with Ginette Laurin ;

• Improvisation in relation to the creative process ;

• Performance and physicality ;

• Workshops on the sound dimension of Onde de choc, with composer Martin Messier ;

• Body consciousness and lifts: working in space in relation to partners, in duets and in groups.

ARTIST'S RESIDENCY POLICY

 

 

Since its founding in 1984, O Vertigo has dedicated itself to research and creation in dance, with equal emphasis on training and the development of the discipline in all its forms. Since the recent opening of the Creation Center at Place des Arts, the company has reaffirmed its mission, and, in the spirit of sharing resources, it is offering other artists in the dance milieu access to these new facilities, which provide optimum conditions for practicing the discipline.

 

Selection :

 

Candidates who wish to apply for a residency must send a motivation letter, along with a description of the project, a short biography, video excerpts of the project or previous works (VHS, DVD or Web link) and the best period for the residency to the address below:

Selection criteria :

 

The artistic quality of the project

The pertinence of need

 

All applications will be examined by the selection committee.

 

Length of the residencies :

 

Each residency will last a maximum of two weeks. The length may vary slightly according to the Creation Center 's schedule of activities.

 

Available resources :

 

Artists whose projects have been selected will have access to O Vertigo's rehearsal studio (3,874 sq.ft.) and basic technical equipment (sound and lighting). Certain conditions concerning the use of space and equipment will be outlined in a written agreement between the artist and O Vertigo.

Registration dates :

 

O Vertigo will hold two residency competitions per year.

For the 2011-2012 year, application deadlines are :

 

November 1, 2011 : for projects to be carried out between January 1 and June 30, 2012. Candidates will receive the answer by November 31.

 

May 1, 2012 : for projects to be carried out between July 1 and December 31, 2012. Candidates will receive the answer by May 31.

GENERAL DIRECTOR

 

Responsibilities

In collaboration with the Board of Directors, the general director is responsible for the development and strategic planning of the company in keeping with O Vertigo’s artistic vision and mission. In this capacity, he or she:

 

• Oversees the financial management of the company;

• Develops strategies and mechanisms for obtaining private funding;

• Negotiates with different levels of government on behalf of the company;

• Manages and provides support to staff;

• Develops national and international dissemination networks;

• Establishes and maintains contacts and relations with national and international producers and presenters;

• Seeks out and negotiates co-productions.

 

The successful candidate must have:

• At least 5 years of relevant experience in the cultural milieu;

• Proven entrepreneurial spirit as a development manager;

• Strong organizational and writing skills;

• Proven ability in developing projects;

• An excellent knowledge of dance and the performing arts in Canada and abroad;

• An excellent command of written and spoken French and English;

• Familiarity with Mac and Office environments.
