The world premiere of Onde de choc at Festival TransAmériques (Montreal)

Less than three weeks remain before the world premiere of Ginette Laurin’s new work, Onde de choc (Shock Wave). In her latest creation, the sounds generated by the highly physical performances of the eight O Vertigo dancers blend with the lyrical flights of works by composer Michael Nyman and the electro-acoustic compositions of Martin Messier, while a backdrop transmits luminous waves that echo the energy emitted by the dancer’s bodies.

The premiere performances of Onde de choc will take place at Festival TransAmériques (FTA) on Friday, May 28th, Saturday the 29th, and Sunday the 30th, at Usine C.

On Saturday, May 29, the public will be able to meet the choreographer on two occasions: in the afternoon at FTA headquarters in the Meet the Artists at QG series, and in the evening, right after the performance of Onde de choc. Another aspect of Ginette Laurin’s work will be highlighted in the FTA film program: Passare (2002), a short film by Oana Suteu based on Ginette Laurin’s choreographical works,

O Vertigo to open and close the Festival de Danse et des Arts multiples de Marseille (France)

Invited as part of the focus on Canadian dance, O Vertigo will open the 15th edition of the Festival de Danse et des Arts multiples de Marseille (F/D/Am/M) with La Vie qui bat (2009 revival). In this work, the choreography flows to the repetitive patterns of a live performance of Drumming by Steve Reich, evoking never-ending movement. For this occasion, the O Vertigo dancers will be accompanied by l’Orchestre des Jeunes de la Méditerranée Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur under the direction of Georges Van Gucht, a founding member of Les Percussions de Strasbourg.

When La Vie qui bat was presented in Tokyo in October, 2009, dance critic Takao Norikoshi (dancedancedance) declared: “The choreography by Ginette Laurin connected the dancers through its organic movements, and the whole stage pulsated.” La Vie qui bat will be performed at the Festival on Thursday, June 17, and Friday, June 18, 2010.

After its world premiere at Festival TransAmériques in Montreal, Onde de choc will be presented for the first time in Europe when it will close the dance program of the F/D/Am/M (Festival de danse et des arts multiples de Marseille) on July 5, 2010.

The full program of the F/D/Am/M can be seen here.
